The Reliability of John & Mark
The accuracy of John was also called into question because the locations he talked about could not
be found. Scientific evidence however has proven his accuracy.
Number One:
FACT: John said Jesus healed a person at the Pool of Bethesda, which he claimed had five porticoes.
PROBLEM: No place like this had been found.
RESOLUTION: A recent excavation found five porticoes.
Another thing brought up is the length of time. In other words, there is an argument saying that
John recorded the history too long after the events happened. Once again, scientific evidence has shed light on this.
Number One:
PROOF: Pool of Siloam
Number Two:
PROOF: Jacob’s Well
Number Three:
PROOF: Stone Pavement where Jesus appeared before Pilate
The accuracy of the gospel of Mark was also attacked. The main issue was the road Jesus chose
to go through Palestine. He would need to make detours because of the terrain. So his route in Mark was logical.
